WASHINGTON (AP) -- The US Post Office at Holdenville would be named after Oklahoma native and Texas oilman Boone Pickens under a proposal by US Senators Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn.
Pickens was born at Holdenville in 1928 and graduated from what was then Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State, in 1951
He later moved to Texas and founded what became Mesa Petroleum Company.
Pickens has donated $40-million to OSU for athletics and academics and has a $35-million gift to OSU in his will.
OSU's geology school and football stadium are both named for him.
The proposal to name the Holdenville Post Office after Pickens now goes to the Senate Government Affairs Committee for consideration.
