Friends and family said good-bye to a local racing legend and her son. Shelly Howard and her son Brian were laid to rest Wednesday.
They were killed in an accident at the Tulsa Raceway Park last weekend. Shelly Howard was one of the best drivers in Top Alcohol Drag racing. On various racing web sites, her fans say they are shocked and saddened by her death.
Shelly Howard was racing her dragster last Saturday night when officials say the vehicle flipped around with the throttle stuck and smashed into the tow-car behind it at 250-miles per hour. Shelly's son Brian was the driver of the tow-car. They both died from their injuries.
Shelly had 3 National Hot Rod Association wins and worked as a nurse with her husband, Doctor Paul Howard. She leaves behind 2 daughters.
