Skiatook couple say they felt close to the Pope

Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Skiatook joined the rest of the world in mourning the death and celebrating the life of Pope John Paul II.

Dr Rudolph Wolf, Skiatook Catholic: "well we were saddened because we felt he was a dear friend. But there's joy in that saddness because we know he's accomplished his mission on earth. And he's with our Lord."

Doctor Rudolph and Mavis Wolf feel so close to the Pope because they've seen him first-hand. Not just once, but five times, including four trips to Rome. They were here in Saint Louis when the Pope visited back in 1999. Dr Wolf still has a medal commemorating the event. And Mavis wears one of her papal souvenirs around her neck.

Dr Rudolph Wolf, Skiatook Catholic: "when you see him for the first time you realize you are in the presence of greatness its almost a humble and quieting experience."

Mavis Wolf, Skiatook Catholic: "he just...its such a holiness and you feel just so humble and I can't get over how he has suffered."

The Wolfs say the Pope's attitude despite that suffering is what made him so inspiring.

Dr Rudolph Wolf, Skiatook Catholic: "and when he came through that door he had a gleam in his eye and a twinkle and smile on his face that just radiated."

The Wolfs say they'll never forget that face or the way he looked when he bounced along in the Popemobile. But they're both hopeful for what's to come.

Dr Rudolph Wolf, Skiatook Catholic: "this month of april is going to be a very important one as we pass from one shepherd to another shepherd so its an exciting time."
