More Hispanic businesses are popping up throughout Tulsa. And now Tulsa spanish-speakers have a new source to find them.
Margarita Vega-Trevino, Hispano de Tulsa Director: "this is our best edition ever we are very very proud of it."
Its called Paginas Hispanas, the Hispanic yellow pages. The fifth edition has a new look, new information, and new businesses.
Margarita Vega-Trevino, Hispano de Tulsa Director: "we had quite a bit of growth in advertising from non-Hispanic businesses. People, businesses that are wanting to target the Hispanic market and cater to their needs."
Margarita Vega-Trevino heads up one of Tulsa's weekly Spanish newspapers and produced the yellow pages. She says the growth shows Tulsa's business community is paying attention to a growing customer base.
Margarita Vega-Trevino, Hispano de Tulsa Director: "We know that we have buying power...quite a strong buying power. And uh a lot of businesses are recognizing that."
The 150-page book is also filled with social service information on everything from immigration to education along with some advice from some familiar faces. The News on 6 Weather Team has an ad featuring severe weather tips in Spanish.
Jim Giles, News on 6 Meteorologist: "You know it doesnt matter how much technology or how many experts we have or how good the forecast is if the folks don’t understand what we're saying or what to do when we have tornado warnings then it doesn't mean a thing."
Margarita Vega-Trevino, Hispano de Tulsa Director: "I think its great because there really wasn't anywhere to go for the hispanic...the spanish-speaking community to learn about tornadoes and how to protect themselves from them.
