OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A portrait of business pioneer Sam Walton -- an Oklahoma native and founder of Wal-Mart -- was unveiled Tuesday at the Oklahoma state Capitol.
The portrait was displayed during a ceremony in the state Senate chamber that honored Walton for his lifetime achievements and contributions to the state. Walton was born in Kingfisher in 1918. He died in 1992.
Wal-Mart operates 96 Wal-Mart stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood markets in Oklahoma along with eight Sam's Club outlets and one distribution center. Wal-Mart employs more than 29,000 people in Oklahoma.
The portrait -- a gift of the Wal-Mart Foundation -- was painted by nationally renowned artist Mike Wimmer of Norman.
