EDMOND, Okla. (AP) The state Fire Marshal's office is investigating an explosion that rocked a road construction company, injuring four workers, including one critically.
The explosion occurred about 2:20 PM Thursday at Duit Construction Company near Interstate 35.
Edmond Fire Major Tim Wheeler says firefighters don't know what caused the blast, but Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel says it happened while an employee was doing some welding.
The critically injured man was taken to Integris Baptist Medical Center's burn unit. Wheeler says three men, including one who went back into the building to help his critically injured colleague, were taken to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center with smoke inhalation.
He says a Woodcrest firefighter was taken to Deaconess Hospital after he collapsed with fatigue.
Human Resources manager Lee Tyner says the all the employees who work in the maintenance building repairing and welding road construction equipment were accounted for.
