ALTUS, Okla. (AP) _ Visitors to Altus Air Force Base are no longer allowed to use cell phones while driving.

The base approved the ban on motorists using cell phones in an effort to improve traffic safety.

The base says hands-free devices like speaker phones or ear pieces that don't require the use of the driver's hands still will be allowed. Motorists who are safely parked also may use phones.

Military members and their dependents who violate the ban will lose three driving points. Other penalties could include a loss of on-base driving privileges for accumulated points.
