A Green Country Marine was honored as a hero after he was wounded in Iraq.
News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says US Marine Sgt Frank Whitlock is recuperating at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina.
Whitlock was wounded by an improvised explosive device back in July. He's had major surgery on his hip, and still needs lots of physical therapy. But he was up on his feet Thursday - with the help of a cane - to receive one of the military's top honors.
After a lengthy lesson about the history of the award, Whitlock's commanding officer presented him with the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.
Right now, Whitlock has no idea when he'll be coming home. Those plans won't be announced until next month.
