The idea of Oklahoma school superintendents carrying guns isn't getting much support in our latest Oklahoma Poll.
The state Senate is expected to consider a bill this session that would allow superintendents and principals to carry guns. They would have to have a valid conceal-carry permit and school board approval.
The state senator proposing the bill says schools in rural areas need this option because it sometimes takes law enforcement a long time to respond to emergencies. But in The News On 6-Tulsa World poll, 64 percent oppose the idea of armed school personnel. 28 percent support it.
Oklahoma school boards may also get the option of deciding whether intelligent design can be taught. A bill before legislators would give school boards the authority to teach intelligent design in classrooms where evolution is taught. 49 percent support its teaching, 35 percent oppose it.
