OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Attorney General Drew Edmondson formally announces his bid for re-election.
The 59-year-old said Tuesday he wants to continue his fight against public corruption and wants to follow through on a lawsuit against poultry companies that allegedly have polluted waters in northeastern Oklahoma.
Edmondson -- a Democrat -- says he expects those companies to try to defeat him.
Among his accomplishments in office, Edmondson says he's cut the appeal time in death penalty cases and saved taxpayers millions of dollars in outside attorney fees by providing essential representation to state agencies.
Republican James Dunn, an attorney who lives in Oklahoma County, also is running for the post.
A Navy veteran, Edmondson served one term in the Oklahoma Legislature, then served three terms as district attorney in Muskogee County.
He and his wife Linda have two grown children and are members of the Presbyterian Church, where Edmondson is an elder.
