An Owasso school received a big honor Monday, the first of its kind in their district.

Mills Elementary in Owasso has been named a model school in the Great Expectations teaching program. They held a special assembly Monday to give themselves a little pat on the back for their hard work and determination. They've been working on achieving the title for the past three years, going to seminars and utilizing special teaching practices.

Mills Elementary School principal Brenda Casey: "the environment of our school has always changed, people are always commenting on our school, the students, their manners and their willingness to shake hands and visit with adults."

Owasso's school superintendent announced last year he would like to be a Great Expectations district, meaning all schools would be Great Expectations certified.
