A retired Tulsa Police officer is found dead in Coweta Sunday morning.

Coweta Police are investigating Sherman Morgan's death as a homicide. They were called out to an apartment complex near 141st and 287th East Avenue in Coweta, just after 9 AM Sunday.

News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims says neighbors say Sherman Morgan was in his eighties, but he was still very active. And they were shocked to find out the former police officer was found dead in a nearby creek.

Coweta Police called on the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to help them find out what happened to Sherman Morgan. Police say Morgan lived on the first floor of this building at the Garden Walk Apartments. When they arrived, police say Morgan's door was wide open, his apartment was ransacked and he wasn't inside.

Coweta Police officers searched the area and found Morgan's body about 200 yards away, submerged in a nearby creek.

Neighbors spoke fondly of Morgan, who served with the Tulsa Police Department for 12 years. Neighbors like Aaron Smith say he will be missed. "I couldn’t ask for a better neighbor. He was just an out-going guy and he cared a lot about people. He went to church regularly. He was just an all-around good guy."

Coweta Police are waiting for the medical examiner to determine how Sherman Morgan died and they're trying to figure out if anything was taken from his apartment.
