BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- The city has begun requiring residents to register their dogs, cats and ferrets at a cost of $10 a year.
Police Chief Leo Willey said a registration ordinance has been in the works for several months, but the death of a 4-year-old boy last month in a pit bull attack brought the issue to the forefront.
Willey said the registration will help identify potentially dangerous dogs and keep others from running loose.
