WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Georgetown Hoyas have delivered a win that recalls some of their best days -- going back to the Patrick Ewing era -- with an 87-84 victory over Number-One and unbeaten Duke.
Duke falls to 17-and-1. They have never made it to 18-and-0. The Hoyas made sure it wouldn't happen this time either.
Brandon Bowman scored 23 points, and Jeff Green had 18 for the 12-and-4 Hoyas. Georgetown had lost nine straight against ranked opponents and hadn't beaten a Number-One team since an 85-69 win over Saint John's in 1985.
Duke's J-J Redick tied a career-high with 41 points. But the Hoyas were able to hold Shelden Williams to a season-low four points.
Georgetown shot 61 percent and led by double digits deep into the second half. They nervously survived a frantic final few minutes where their lead fell to just two with four minutes remaining.
A crowd of more than 20-thousand witnessed the upset. That's more than triple the Hoyas' average attendance at M-C-I Center.
