OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Legislative staffers worked into the night to meet the deadline for filing bills for consideration by the upcoming Oklahoma Legislature.
In the state Senate, 740 bills and joint resolutions had been filed by early afternoon Thursday and a similar number had been introduced in the state House.
Leaders expected 1,000 or more bills will be filed in the state House and state Senate. Hundreds of measures also are left over from the 2005 session.
The 2006 Legislature convenes February 6th and must adjourn by May 26th.
Major issues are expected to be tort reform, education, highway funding and public safety.
