A Mayes County Sheriff's deputy is recovering from a stabbing and a robbery suspect is dead after a standoff in Chouteau.

It started with an investigation Monday morning into a stolen pickup and armed robbery of a Chouteau convenience store. It led deputies to two suspects.

Authorities went to the Chouteau home of Gayla Cochran, where they believed suspect Tracy Whitecotton[pictured] was hiding. Sheriff deputy Sergeant Chris Fogelman kicked-in the door and Whitecotton charged him with a knife. Whitecotton died at the hospital.
