OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A man arrested in the beating death of a longtime Norman resident was charged with first-degree murder in Cleveland County District Court.
Curtis Wayne Campbell, 25, was arrested early Friday after being questioned by Norman police in the death of Danny Ray Musgrave, 47.
Musgrave's body was found at his home Tuesday with a gash from apparent blunt force trauma to the forehead. He was found by his parents, who discovered him nude and lying under a comforter, court papers say.
His mother, Doris Musgrave, said her son was a licensed electrician who was raised in Norman and born in Oklahoma City. He is the father of three boys.
``He was a good man,'' Doris Musgrave said. ``He just got in with the wrong crowd.''
She said her son knew Campbell and she had met him briefly once.
``The Lord is with me and He is helping me get through this. It is hard that we will never see him again. It is a tragedy,'' Doris Musgrave said.
While Campbell was being questioned about Musgrave's death Thursday night at police headquarters, another man walked into the lobby and told detectives that Campbell had claimed he killed Musgrave, a court affidavit says.
The man who walked into the lobby ``was able to give specific details of the incident that were consistent with the evidence observed at the crime scene,'' the affidavit says.
Detectives said Campbell then confessed to killing Musgrave and taking a cell phone, keys, cash, a wallet and clothes before returning to his Norman apartment, the affidavit says.
Campbell was in the Cleveland County jail Friday in lieu of $1 million bail.
A funeral service for Danny Musgrave was Saturday at the Everlasting Life Baptist Church, Doris Musgrave said.
