OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A state lawmaker says veterans who live in one of Oklahoma's veterans' centers should have the right to vote.

Representative Wes Hilliard says all Oklahoma veterans should be able to participate in the very rights they fought for.

Hilliard says many veterans are incapacitated and can't travel to county voting sites. His bill would let them to vote directly from their room in a state veterans' center.

State law already allows county election boards to assemble an absentee voting board to go to nursing homes to give residents a chance to vote in an election. Hilliard's bill would extend that right.

Oklahoma has seven veterans' centers across the state, including Hilliard's hometown of Sulphur.
