OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A former business manager of the state Pardon and Parole Board is appealing a decision to deny her unemployment benefits.

Darlene Whaley filed for unemployment after she was fired last September for allegedly using her state credit card to buy frivolous items. The state Employment Security Commission denied her request for unemployment benefits in November.

Whaley was fired after investigators found she used her state-issued card to buy a refrigerator, candy, snacks, office supplies, office decorations and art work.

Her attorney says all the items were bought for office use.

Whaley is also appealing her firing and a hearing on whether to reinstate her is set for next Wednesday.
