Lab tests show Kingfisher water wells clear

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Laboratory tests of water wells in rural Kingfisher show no signs of pollution from the nearby natural gas geysers that have been spewing for more than a week.

Oklahoma Corporation Commission spokesman Matt Skinner says the agency received the results of lab tests today and plans to notify area residents immediately.

Air monitoring of a quarter-mile radius around the geysers also show no pollutants.

Skinner says there are about 14 residents who live in the immediate area.

The gas plumes were discovered more than a week ago spewing out of several locations along Winter Camp Creek.

Investigators think pressure at a gas well several miles away is the likely cause.

Meanwhile, Chesapeake Energy says it is continuing to produce more than 22-million cubic feet from the well each day. Skinner says the company hopes to relieve some of the pressure on the gas pocket before plugging the well.
