WASHINGTON (AP) _ A 23 year-old soldier assigned to Fort Sill has been killed in Iraq.

The Defense Department Friday announced Sergeant Michael C. Taylor of Hockley, Texas, died Wednesday in Balad.

DOD says an improvised explosive device went off near Taylor's Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck during combat operations.

Taylor was assigned to the Third Battalion, 13th Field Artillery, 214th Field Artillery Brigade of the Third Corps Artillery at Fort Sill.
