OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Bankers Association is warning of an increase in scam artists trying to separate Oklahomans from their money.

Association Vice President Elaine Dodd says the scammers are calling people statewide and seem to be targeting the elderly. She says there have been reports of calls made this week in Shawnee, Okmulgee, Walters, Skiatook, Bristow and Stonewall.

Dodd says the callers claim to work at a bank, but never mention the name of the bank. They say there is a problem with the account and ask the person to verify information about the account. She says another version of the scam has the caller claiming to work for a "National Bureau of Verification."

At least two people have said they provided some account information.

Anyone receiving such a call should immediately hang up and call their bank to be certain they're talking to a true bank representative.
