OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The state Department of Human Services is now taking applications for the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

DHS expects to have about $8-million to help low-income residents pay their heating bills this winter. The program helped 90,000 families last year.

Applications are available through the department's county offices and will be accepted through December 20th.

Eligibility for assistance is based on household income and assets. A recent heating bill and proof of income information will be required for the application.
