HUGO, Okla. (AP) -- A man and woman are in custody after a high-speed chase and a shootout with Choctaw County deputies near Hugo Sunday night prompted a manhunt.
When deputies approached a suspicious vehicle about 10:30 Sunday night, Choctaw County Sheriff Lewis Collins says the driver accelerated at the deputy, knocking him to the ground. The two deputies and the suspect then exchanged gunfire. The deputies weren't injured.
A high-speed chase that ensued came to an end along a county road, where both suspects fled into the woods.
Thirty-six-year-old Monica Velasquez was taken into custody about 10:30 Monday morning. Collins says she was treated for glass or shrapnel wounds to her shoulder and is being held at the Choctaw County Jail.
The man believed to be the driver of the vehicle -- 41-year-old Steven Allen -- was picked up about 3:30 Monday afternoon by Texas officials in Chicota, Texas, just across the Red River.
