FREDERICK, Okla. (AP) -- The sheriff of Tillman County was released from his own jail after spending the weekend in custody for allegedly assaulting a woman and her teenage son.
Frederick police arrested Sheriff Billy Hanes on Friday on an assault complaint at the Tillman County District Attorney's office. That's where Velma Pollard was filing a protective order on behalf of herself and her son, Jharaet Rogans.
Pollard alleges that Hanes threatened to kill her son for getting Hanes' daughter pregnant.
According to the protective order, Hanes and his brother chased her and her son around the office and scuffled.
Pollard, who is black, also alleges that Hanes, who is white, made racial slurs.
Hanes couldn't be reached for comment.
Special prosecutor Gene Christian says he expects to have something filed by the end of the week, once he gets a fuller scope of what happened.
An arrest report wasn't immediately available.
