LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents on Tuesday named Tom Landers the new dean of the College of Engineering.
Landers, who joined OU in 1998 as Morris R. Pitman Professor and director of the School of Industrial Engineering, has served as interim dean since June. He replaced former Dean Arthur "Skip" Porter, who stepped down in June but remained at OU as the vice president for technology development.
The OU College of Engineering has nearly 2,200 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students, including 168 National Scholars. Thirty-five of its 116 faculty members hold endowed chairs or professorships.
Also on Tuesday, OU President David Boren announced a $2 million gift to the university's library from the estate of the late Faery and Theodore Loveridge of Norman. The Regents approved naming Bizzell Memorial Library's electronic information center after the couple.
