WASHINGTON (AP) _ The government wants doctors to stop using an injection that's been used to treat acid reflux disease.
The Food and Drug Administration says Enteryx has been connected to serious health problems and at least one death.
The F-D-A says many of the problems with the injection have occurred when it misses its intended destination and passes through the wall of the esophagus. Doctors have not always immediately detected a faulty injection.
Enteryx is injected as a liquid that solidifies into a spongy material that cannot be removed.
When it is injected properly, it strengthens the lower esophagus, which helps prevent stomach acid from entering it and causing pain.
