Out-of-state groups getting behind TABOR

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- At least three out-of-state anti-tax groups have pledged to spend thousands of dollars to pass an initiative petition to restrict state government spending in Oklahoma.

Rick Carpenter, chairman of Oklahomans for Action, says the groups have each pledged to donate ten-thousand dollars or more to the campaign.

The Tulsa-based group wants a statewide vote on a so-called taxpayer bill of rights, or TABOR. It's similar to a plan in effect in Colorado.

The group also is gathering signatures on a petition that would protect landowners from losing property to government agencies exercising their power of eminent domain.

Carpenter says it will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to conduct the twin initiative petition drives and campaigns to pass the proposals.
