BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- A former Bartlesville firefighter is accused of embezzling more than $166,000 from the firefighters insurance fund.
Lloyd Lay was arrested on 35 complaints of forgery, 34 complaints of embezzlement and one count of attempted embezzlement.
Police Lieutenant Mike Richardson says Lay is accused of writing checks to himself from the Bartlesville Professional Firefighters Association Insurance Fund account and forging signatures of other members on the checks.
Lay is a member of the association and was in charge of handling the insurance fund. Other members of the firefighters association reported to police that $166,653.56 was embezzled from the fund.
