OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The state Department of Public Safety is returning drivers' licenses to about 3,500 people accused of drunken driving.
Lieutenant Stewart Meyer says an error involving breath-alcohol test equipment is the reason.
From March to July of this year a device used by the state to calibrate and standardize breath analyzers was not on the list of officially approved equipment. The mistake led to the firing of Board of Tests director McBeth Sample junior.
Although many drivers will be getting their licenses back, authorities say they could still be prosecuted on criminal DUI charges.
