LINDSAY, Okla. (AP) _ An 82-year-old Maysville man was hit by a truck and killed as he crossed a county road southeast of Lindsay.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Thomas Grimes was taken to a Norman hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The patrol says Grimes was walking across a Garvin County road about 8:30 Friday night when he was hit by a pickup driven by Kevin Scruggs of Lindsay. Scruggs wasn't injured in the crash.
The OHP also reported a 53-year-old Arkansas woman died Friday night from injuries she suffered in a crash earlier on Wednesday. Verla Huckaby of Mena, Arkansas, was attempting to enter a rest area along Interstate 40 in McIntosh County when she ran off the road, hit an embankment and flipped her car three-and-a-half times.
She was flown in critical condition to a Tulsa hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
So far this year, the OHP says 453 people have been killed on Oklahoma roads and highways this year. That's an increase of 430 deaths during the same time last year.
