WOODWARD, Okla. (AP) -- The Woodward City Commission approves a city curfew for minors.
The new law unanimously approved Tuesday night doesn't allow minors to be out past 11 PM on weekdays or 1 AM on weekends.
City Manager Alan Riffel says the commission had discussed the proposal at its regular meeting last month but opted to gather public input on the subject before voting.
The curfew gives police the authority to detain minors who violate the ordinance.
Officers asked for a curfew ordinance after vandalism and theft had increased in a part of the city.
Curfew hours are between 11 PM and 5 AM Sundays through Thursdays and from 1 AM to 5 AM Saturdays and Sundays.
Riffel says exceptions include youths with a legitimate work- or school-related reason for being out after hours.
