OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A weak cold front pushing across parts of Oklahoma today is bringing some relief from the heat and drought _ but that relief is expected to be short-lived.

A line of thunderstorms developed along the front in the Panhandle and northwestern Oklahoma. Guymon and Beaver each report an inch-and-a-half or more rain.

Some city streets in Guymon flooded and assistant Fire Chief Grant Wadley says there are also strong winds and pea-size hail but no reports of damage.

Still a heat advisory remains in effect today for southern Oklahoma and a more serious excessive heat warning is in place for eastern Oklahoma.

National Weather Service meteorologist Kenneth James says the heat index is expected to remain between 100 and 105 degrees for each of the next few days.

The state medical examiner's office says the heat is responsible for 16 deaths this year including 14 in the past three weeks.
