SEATTLE (AP) -- The Weyerhaeuser Company and the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation have pledged $1-million to The Nature Conservancy to support forest conservation and biodiversity projects, including some in Oklahoma.
The contributions will include both cash and interests in forest land, and will involve projects in the Northwest and the Southeast. Weyerhaeuser owns or leases nearly 6.5-million acres of managed forests in those two regions.
Over the next five years, Weyerhaeuser and the conservancy will select projects in states including Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
The Washington-based company owns about 500,000 acres of timberland in Oklahoma.
