It's the bank heist that wasn't. Raymond Mark is behind bars in a Washington County jail, accused of entering a couple's home in Copan to rob them.
Prosecutors say it was all part of an elaborate plan to rob a bank just across the state line in Caney, Kansas. Early Monday, the homeowner heard someone at the back door. He opened it and was confronted by Mark who made an unusual demand.
Mark wanted the keys to the bank, where the man's wife works. Instead of the keys, the homeowner grabbed his gun. Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Fesler: "As soon as the homeowner pulled the gun on him, he raised his hands and surrendered, pulled the knife out of his back pocket, laid it on the washer and sat in the kitchen seat, just apologized and said it wasn't the brightest thing he's done."
Deputies say Mark watched the woman for days. He allegedly planned to use the keys to rob the bank. He's being held on a first degree burglary complaint.
The FBI has been contacted to determine whether this warrants federal charges.
