DAYTON, Ohio (AP) The Air Force Materiel Command is preparing to cut 750 civilian positions next year as part of a downsizing effort.
The command delivers and maintains missiles and planes and employs about 55,700 civilians at 10 bases, including Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.
It is headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
David Levingston, a spokesman for the command, says the Air Force has not determined the impact on individual bases.
The cuts are part of the Air Force's proposed budget for fiscal year 2007, which begins October 1st.
The Materiel Command will eliminate the positions over a year's time beginning this October.
Levingston says that Air Force-wide, 2,000 civilian jobs will be cut in 2007.
