A "novel" donation to the News on 6 "Book by Book" literacy campaign Wednesday.

A Tulsa children's publisher sent Bank of Oklahoma representative’s home with $10,000 worth of books.

News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson says so far this month, the generous people of Oklahoma have given more than 12,000 books in our book drive. That number shot up by another 1,500 Wednesday afternoon.

Boxes of books will be going to special literacy programs in the Tulsa area. They're a gift from Educational Development Corporation, a Tulsa children's bookseller. EDC ships millions of books for kids of all ages, all over the continent.

They're giving storybooks, science books, and art books to the News on 6 and Bank of Oklahoma's "Caring for Kids, Book by Book" drive.

EDC president Randall White says putting books in the hands of kids is his number one goal. "25 percent of the population of the United States doesn't have 10 books in their home. That's so sad. And this program can impact that, and we're really proud to be a part of it."

You can still donate to "Book-By-Book". Just drop off new or gently used books at any Bank of Oklahoma branch. We'll be collecting books until Friday.

The folks at EDC are really focused on giving back. Along with giving $10,000 worth of books to our campaign, they're also working to rebuild libraries along the Gulf Coast.
