Some young Sand Springs softball players have taken home top honor in several local tournaments, and now, they're hoping to do the same thing at nationals, but they have to get there first.
The Lady Yankees are holding car washes, bake sales, you name it, trying to raise money for the trip. The team consists of 12 girls under 8 years old. Thursday, they solicited contributions during the lunch hour in downtown Tulsa.
Some of the girls have never played softball before now. Brad Millican with the Sand Springs Lady Yankees: "that's been our goal all year long, play hard do well and go to the nationals at the end of the season."
Nationals are July 14th in Fort Smith, Arkansas. More than 50 teams will be competing from several states.
