WASHINGTON (AP) -- US Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma tells the director of the US Census Bureau that his agency was "lagging behind" in utilizing the Internet.

Coburn told Charles Louis Kincannon Tuesday that he is particularly miffed that the agency has decided not to use the Internet for the 2010 census.

Coburn said the estimated cost of the 2010 census is $11.3-billion, about $5-billion more than the last census, in 2000. He said that's despite the fact that the agency will only be sending out a short form in 2010.

Kincannon told Coburn that inflation is the main reason for the increased cost and that the agency expects to count about 13 million more households than in 2000.
