Tulsa’s Harvard Avenue Baptist Church saw some of the worst of the damage from Tuesday’s storm.
The wind yanked out the skylights in the gym. And it made a new skylight in the sanctuary, tearing a large hole in the roof. Both areas had bad water damage. There were close calls and near misses all around the neighborhood. Trees smashed cars. Trees smashed houses.
Fred Lamar was nearly killed when a power pole crashed in front of his car. Live wires were draped "across" his car. "And I had one wire on the driver's side and one wire wedged in the rear-view mirror on the passenger side, so I couldn't get out. So I sat there for a while, listened to the radio."
The Tulsa Fire Department was going door-to-door to check on people. They say about 3-dozen houses had some kind of storm damage.
