OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma City police say a man has drowned while trying to swim across the Oklahoma River early Monday morning.

Police say the man was one of two men trying to swim the river just after midnight.

The second man told officers his friend began having trouble about halfway across the river and he tried to save him, but wasn't able to prevent the drowning.

The victim's name hasn't been released.

Swimming is not allowed in the river and police say alcohol may have played a role in the drowning.
