OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A Tulsa-based company is getting back in the nuclear power business.
Enercon Incorporated is working with three utilities to prepare combined construction and permit-operating licenses for proposed nuclear reactors in Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina.
The company was founded in 1983 to perform permit applications for nuclear plants but shifted its focus when new nuclear facilities stopped being built in the mid-1980s.
Rising energy prices have helped create interest alternative energy sources, and Congress last year approved incentives for the first few companies that build new nuclear power plants.
Enercon has about 45 employees at its Tulsa headquarters and about 30 in Oklahoma City.
