DURANT, Okla. (AP) -- The southeast Oklahoma city of Durant is in the running for the country's All-America City.
Durant is the only Oklahoma competitor for the nationwide contest in at least 16 years. The Bryan County community joins 33 other finalists in the competition, including large cities like Miami, Florida, and Kansas City, Missouri.
The smallest finalist city is Braselton, Georgia, with a population of about 1,200. Durant has a population of about 14,500.
This year marks the 53rd year of the National Civic League's award, which recognizes communities whose citizens work together to identify and solve community-wide challenges.
