Since 1998, the Broken Arrow Police Department sought citizen input through the use of citizen crime surveys, to improve services valued by the community.

Every two to three years, citizens are surveyed to determine their perceptions regarding crime and the quality of police services. Information obtained from these surveys has been utilized to influence the day-to-day delivery of police services.

Citizen responses have led the police department to place emphasis on services that concern citizens the most. For example, citizen concerns regarding traffic problems resulted in creating a nationally recognized traffic enforcement unit. Concerns regarding drug problems led to allocation of additional personnel to investigate and enforce narcotics violations. Operation Don’t Meth Around project developed by a Broken Arrow narcotics investigator has received national recognition and emerged as one of the best practices in narcotics enforcement and education.

As additional officers were hired, the department increased the number of patrol beats and reduced the size of those beats, to improve response to calls and increase police visibility.

Beginning in June, citizens will have an opportunity once again to voice their views about crime and the quality of police services. The 2006 Citizen Crime Survey will be included in the City water bills during June and July.

Citizens are asked to take a few moments to complete the survey and return it to the Broken Arrow Police Department by July 31, 2006 either by mail, in person or by fax.

Citizens with Internet access can complete and submit the survey online by going to the Broken Arrow Police Department website at www.bapolice.org from June 1st to July 31st.
