Civilians planning a trip through Fort Sill in southwest Oklahoma may want to turn off the cell phone.

Starting next month, soldiers and their families at Fort Sill will not be able to use mobile phones while driving. Base officials say the ban is part of a Department of Defense policy.

Drivers still can use hands-free devices or cell phones while parked.

Those caught using a cell phone on the base can be ticketed for a moving violation.
