McALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ A 49-year-old Gowen man died after crashing his vehicle into a tractor-trailer west of McAlester in Pittsburg County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Jon Dee Smith was driving behind the big rig when the truck began to turn onto a side road. Smith swerved into the oncoming lane to pass the truck and slammed into the trailer.

The patrol says Smith was pinned inside his vehicle for about 70 minutes and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer -- Brian Leon Woodruff of Stigler -- wasn't injured.
