NORMAN, Okla. (AP) A fraternity that lost its charter for the University of Oklahoma campus following the death of a pledge in September 2004 could be reinstated by this time next year.
OU President David Boren suspended Sigma Chi from the campus after 19-year-old Blake Hammontree died at the fraternity's house following a drinking binge.
Boren says Sigma Chi could regain its campus charter as soon as spring 2007 but that the fraternity first must meet several conditions.
Those include presenting a business plan for chapter operations, conducting a full membership review of undergratuates who petition to become members, fully complying with OU's comprehensive plan to combat alcohol and appointing an alumni supervisory committee.
