SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) -- A candidate for governor in Arkansas says the state should find a way to fight for poultry producers in their fight with Oklahoma over water quality.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson says he thinks his state will get involved at some point to protect its interests.
Oklahoma is suing 14 poultry companies for allegedly polluting the Illinois River watershed and Lake Tenkiller. The US Supreme Court ruled last month that the state of Arkansas could not join the case.
Hutchinson is running against Democrat Attorney General Mike Beebe for governor in Arkansas. It was Beebe who asked the Supreme Court to allow Arkansas to get involved in the lawsuit.
