OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A bill to allow Oklahoma judges to carry guns into their courtroom is getting support from judges and law enforcement personnel.

The bill is sponsored by Representative Daniel Sullivan and has passed the state House.

Sullivan says he's heard from judges across the state who say they keep guns in their chambers for protection.

Garfield County Judge Bruce Harvey says he has a permit to carry a gun, but leaves it in his car and would like to be able to carry it at all times because of threats against him.

And Oklahoma County Judge Twyla Mason Gray says she would consider carrying a gun in the courtroom.

Cleveland County Sheriff DeWayne Beggs says he's not opposed to judges carrying guns and would help the judges in any way he could.

The bill is now pending in the state Senate.
