OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A Rush Springs volunteer firefighter remains in critical condition more than two weeks after being seriously burned in a Duncan wildfire.

Doctors say they're surprised Destry Horton is still alive. Horton was burned over about 50 percent of his body, including his lungs.

Both of his arms have been amputated and doctors have found that the damage to his head and face is more serious than they thought.

The 32-year-old had planned to go golfing the day of the fires, but then changed his mind and went to aid firefighters. He and a Rush Springs colleague entered a smoke-filled area near Duncan, and their fire truck got stuck.

Firefighters across the state are wearing ribbons and buttons to show their acknowledgment of Destry Horton's battle and more than 1,400 T-shirts printed with a message of support have been sold in Chickasha.
